Chemical and Saline Injection Abortion Survivor
Rosemarie “Rose” Fenchel grew up with a deep sense of not belonging—without fully understanding why. It wasn’t until her mother, nearing her 91st birthday, revealed a long-hidden secret that everything finally made sense: out of desperation and poverty, already raising five children, her mother had attempted to end her pregnancy through a chemical abortion—taking 54 pills and receiving three saline injections over three days. Miraculously, Rose survived. She is a chemical abortion survivor, having endured a medical abortion attempt in the pre-Roe era—what today is known as surviving the abortion pill or an Abortion Pill Reversal.
Today, Rose is a passionate voice for life—especially against chemical abortion. She shares her story to expose the reality of abortion pills and to offer hope and healing to others. Over time, both she and her mother found healing. And through the Abortion Survivors Network, Rose found what she had longed for: a sense of belonging.
As a trained dietetic professional, Rose has spent her career honoring the dignity of life at every stage. That same compassion and respect shine through when she shares her survival story—always with the aim to advocate for life, build connection, and encourage healing from abortion trauma.
Rose is a proud member of the Abortion Survivors Network and co-leads More Than Sisters alongside her younger sister, Michele Smith, who miraculously survived the same abortion attempt. Together and individually, they speak across the country, offering a powerful testimony of survival, sisterhood, and hope. Rose is also a certified leader of Surrendering the Secret, leading those with past abortion experiences find healing, forgiveness, and freedom.
Rose lives in New Jersey with her husband, Eric.

I wanted to share some wonderful feedback regarding Rosemarie's presentation at The Open Door Pregnancy Center's 40th-anniversary banquet. We loved hearing her story and were so touched by her evident heart for the Lord. It meant a great deal to me personally that she took the time to pray for me and the success of the evening ahead. From what we could tell, the donors in attendance thoroughly enjoyed the story she shared with us. Her message resonated deeply and added a special touch to our celebration.
Thank you both so much for coming! There has been great discussion in the past couple of weeks, and I’m especially grateful for the conversation your talk sparked with one attendee – she realized she hadn’t coped with the fact that she has four siblings who never made it alive out of the womb. She was extremely moved by your talk, and it really helped her process this. Generally, people were really interested in what you decided to share: the ability to forgive, the greater gratitude you have for your life now, and the way which you view the new lives in your own family. It was different perhaps than what people may have expected, you’re your personal perspective is what really mattered, and exactly what I think we needed on campus.
We were privileged to have sisters Michele Smith and Rosemarie Fenchel as our featured speakers for our annual Gala on Thursday evening, October 3, 2024. What a blessing they were to us and the crowd of some 300 who attended! Their stories were moving and presented in a fantastic manner, with a straightforward message of God’s purpose for their lives while incorporating humor and relatable content. I can say without reservation that of the many WRC Galas I have attended for the last 15 years, it was one of the best and most well-received presentations we have been blessed to hear. Both are outstanding women of boldness yet with humility for what God has chosen for their lives. Their message is powerful and resonated with all who attended. I would highly recommend them as speakers but, more importantly, as genuine Christian women whose message of purpose will touch hearts and lives.
Thank your courage and willingness to share your story. You are making a huge impact in the fight for life.
Thank you both so much for coming up to Boston College to share your story with the BC community yesterday! The people there loved your talk and were so moved by your vulnerability and charity. I loved getting to meet you, and we all will hold your message in our hearts for a very long time.
