Iranian immigrant to US who had been sentenced to death for being a Christian
Marziyeh (Marzi) Amirizadeh is an Iranian American author, public speaker, human rights advocate, and president of Newpersia.org. She immigrated to the United States after being sentenced to death by hanging in Iran for the crime of converting to Christianity.
During her imprisonment in Tehran’s notorious Evin Prison, she endured months of intense interrogation, psychological abuse, and harsh conditions before being released following international pressure from human rights and religious freedom organizations.
After becoming a Christian in 1999, Marzi helped establish underground house churches and distributed thousands of Bibles throughout Iran. In 2009, she was arrested and charged with apostasy, blasphemy, and promoting Christianity, offenses that carried a death sentence under Iran’s regime.
Following her release, Marzi settled in Atlanta, Georgia, where she earned both a Bachelor’s degree and a Master of Science in International Affairs from Georgia Tech. She became a U.S. citizen in 2016 and later ran as the Republican candidate for the Georgia House of Representatives in 2022.
Marzi is the author of two books: Captive in Iran, which chronicles her imprisonment and remarkable survival, and A Love Journey with God, which shares her spiritual journey and the challenges she faced as a Christian woman in Iran. Her books are available on www.marzisjourney.com.
As a leading advocate for religious freedom and human rights, Marzi has addressed audiences across the United States and internationally. She has met with members of Congress, U.S. State Department officials, ambassadors for international religious freedom, UK parliamentarians, and global policymakers to raise awareness of the persecution of women and religious minorities in Iran.
Her story has been featured by major media outlets, including Fox News, CBN, TBN, The Times of London, Sean Hannity Radio, and Mike Huckabee. She is also a widely published columnist whose articles have appeared in Townhall, The Jerusalem Post, The Times of Israel, All Israel News, and other international publications.
Marziyeh spoke with great conviction and emotion. Many women were touched and inspired by her story. She was gracious and truly made our event special. I am more than delighted we had her as our featured speaker for this year.
Marziyeh is an exceptional and charming speaker with an amazing story. Our audience was blown away.
